I would take an EIP movie version over The Last Airbender any day.

Agreed. As bad as EIP was, the actors were truer to the characters than this movie.

Yeah, at least they showed some life.
Even if Aang was a woman xD

In the end EIP was really just a huge exaggeration of the characters. It wasn't all that off from the characters canon personalities. It was so bad that it was good. As for the movie, the characters were so far off in personality and looks, you can't even call them the same characters really. EIP was trying to be bad, the movie was not.

EIP is a freaking masterpiece compared to this movie.

I've elaborated on this in the old KF ship war thread in a post which I also copied in the Kataang discussion thread here at TKC, but honestly? EIP WAS a masterpiece BECAUSE it was trying to be bad. Let me explain. The thing about it is in-series it was made for an indoctrinated Fire Nation audience. So the utter goofiness of it all was basically designed to reduce the Fire Nation's enemies and especially the Gaang to wacky caricatures of themselves so that the target audience would be more likely to cheer when Ozai and Azula put them away at the end of the play. And Aang, as the 12-year-old Avatar directly standing in Ozai's way, was the number one target of said flanderization. Played by a woman as Saxy noted, "Avatar State Yip Yip", his relationship with Katara so cheerfully diminished…the whole thing was played to be cringe-inducing on purpose.

Well, except for Sokka's actor towards the end. He just couldn't resist using the genuine funnies from someone who might as well have been *coughWAScough* the real thing.

I didn't like EIP when it first aired because I wanted some avatar BAness right before the finale and they gave us a play. After the finale, when I went back and watched EIP, I really enjoyed it. I never thought to call it a masterpiece before, but you've convinced me, Fortune. *yuan*

Iroh's character is what really bugged me.  He just...he didn't seem like Iroh.  Not to mention they pronounced his name so horribly wrong and he was so unlike Iroh that I didn't even realize who he was until Zuko called him his uncle.

Yeah, I didn't realize that either; it took me a while to figure out who he was. I don't even think he mentioned tea once in the movie. ^^'

That was one of the worst crimes this movie committed. Iroh without tea is like Katara without Aang

It felt like watching paint dry on a wall for 103 minutes.

The race reversal was so bad even voice actors couldn't get away with being whiter than their characters anymore in this franchise for a bit. See how Korra's VA Janet Varney was treated at first.

In my opinion, the movie was not as terrible as many think. I think that the writing is what made it so hard to watch. Actually, the direction was not too bad, but the writing was so basic and disconnected, that it made the movie a thousand times worse. Also, the different pronunciation of the names annoyed me quite a bit.

I thought it was pretty good as a parody of the original series. Did you see the earthbending dance scene, where the earthbenders were imprisoned in a valley filled with...earth?

I'm in the "writing killed what could have been decent" crowd. Though I've been told it wasn't even M. Night's writing, some Hollywood "script doctor" has the blood on their hands. And is probably out of a job now.

Perhaps he did, I'm not familiar with how the film production business works exactly. But what if he was put up to it by the executives bankrolling the operation?

I doubt it. I don't think executives have the power to do that, and I don't know why they would either.

Get it released on schedule, for what they assess will be a more profitable weekend?

All they have to do is threaten to dock his pay a whole bunch.

This is of course just shooting form the hip with speculation. But, these are very real concerns and methods of "incentivization" for project management.

There's also ample evidence in recent years to suggest that M Night just isn't very good at making films any more.

In an interview on UGO.com, M Night admitted to making the changes personally to make it more culturally correct. It was all based on his personal preference.  http://www.ugo.com/movies/changes-to-the-last-airbender

The script itself definitely showed some of M. Night's personal style. I'm not saying because it was bad or that he's bad or anything, but there were some instances that reminded me of some of his other movies.
