Create your own Avatar movie trilogy
« on: April 06, 2017, 02:57:08 AM »
Suppose another director was given a green light to make a new Avatar movie. Which episodes would you choose to fit into trilogy (or quology if that's even a word) of three to three and a half hour movies? Ten each is the maximum.

Water: 1&2 (two-parters count as one episode), 3, 4, 5, 6, 7&8, 12, 13, 18, 19&20

Earth: 1, 4, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 14, 18, 19&20

Fire Part 1: 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10&11

Fire Part 2: 12, 13, 14&15, 16, 18-21 (final battle will take up a majority of the third act)

Trimming a lot of fat ( or filler) here and I'd expand on what should have been expanded upon, add original scenes, etc. I'd also have it done in CGI and have it rated R or at least a high PG-13. Come on, all Avatards wished to have more violent bending battles and wanted to hear Toph cussing like a drunken sailor, which we know she would have. Zuko would too, but he'd sound like a twelve-year-old doing it.

Book 1

Southern Water Tribe. Katara and Sokka break Aang out of the iceberg. Zuko attempts to capture him and fails.

Southern Air Temple. We combine it with The Storm. We see Aang find Gyatso's skeleton. We flashback to his learning that he was the Avatar. He relives his failure. It's at this time that he connects into the Spirit World, as the Avatar State calms down, and Avatar Roku warns him that he must defeat the Fire Lord in a years time, lest the world be sent out of balance permanently.

Kyoshi Warriors. We combine this with The Blue Spirit. This is their middle journey. Katara and a Sokka are sick, Aang needs to find medicine. The Kyoshi Warriors protect them as Aang heads off to find an antidote. Sokka's sexism is challenged when he realizes how capable a warrior Suki is when battling off Jun, a tracker enlisted by Zuko. Aang gets captured by Zhao, Zuko breaks him free. We carry on from there with that conflict in mind. Aang steals back Katara's necklace through this exchange.

Northern Water Tribe. Plays out about the same way as in the show.

Estimated Total Run Time: 2 hrs 30mn

Book 2

We establish Zuko's refugee status as he and Iroh chop off their ponytails and go deeper into the Earth Kingdom.

Azula targets Zuko and the Gaang at once in an all out assault at Omashu. In this battle, eventually the Gaang and Zuko all team up to take out Azula. She escapes, hurting Iroh. Zuko forces them to leave, as he tends to his uncle. During this time, and after this conflict, we meet Aang's old friend Bumi. He tells Aang about the Library in the desert. Laments that he cannot teach Aang earthbending, as he must now fight to protect his city from the Fire Nation.

We meet Toph, who escapes her noble life to join the Avatar on his journey, aching to prove herself and have an actual impact the world. Aang's earthbending training must begin in harsh conditions as we head to the Library. We get the Kyoshi Warriors to join with the Gaang, who have key advice on how to reach the Library, seeing as Avatar Kyoshi had important connections to the location.

The Library. We meet Wan Shi Tong. Sokka discovers the Eclipse, the perfect battle strategy for attacking the Fire Nation. In their attempt to escape from the Library before Wan Shi Tong can destroy the place, Suki and Sokka grow closer. Toph struggles to keep it from collapsing until they can get outside. We must part ways with Suki and the rest of the group as we head to Ba Sing Se.

We reach Ba Sing Se and the Gaang is put on hold in their efforts to get the Earth King to support their war plans. There is no war in Ba Sing Se. We see that Iroh and Zuko have been making a name for themselves in the metropolis. Iroh makes the best tea in the entire inner city. Zuko is still feeling restless.

We cut to Azula and her crew, dressed in Kyoshi Warrior garb, bowing outside the Earth King's castle.

We combine Crossroads of Destiny with Lake Laogai.

[As the Gaang are taken to Lake Laogai to be brainwashed into forgetting The War, Zuko finds out that Aang is in Ba Sing Se and feels compelled to find him. Zuko goes undercover, quickly followed by Iroh. Within the next few hours, Long Feng, the one actually in control, realizes that he didn't allow his soldiers to take sides in the war, he simply brainwashed them to respect the most manipulative and powerful person, which Azula is. His army, the Dai Lee, is quickly at her beck and call. By the time Zuko has been convinced by Iroh to help free the Gaang, and they've almost managed to do so, in come the military reinforcements. From Azula. She demands that Zuko and Katara be detained together, in a prison made that neither water nor fire can help with.. Sokka and Toph are paired off as well, in a metal prison which Toph eventually figures out how to escape from using a new type of earthbending. She invents metalbending and breaks her and Sokka out. They escape to the Throne Room to warn the Earth King of the invasion, but he is nowhere to be found. It's too late.

Back in Lake Laogai, Aang is desperate to figure out how to escape the metal prison he's been trapped in. He contacts Avatar Roku for help. He learns that all of his chakras must be opened for him to have control over the Avatar State and enact it at will. As a monk, almost all of his chakras are already open. Except for one.

Zuko and Katara have realized they're not so different. Zuko reveals that he wants to make amends, turn his life around. Meanwhile, Iroh has managed to escape a prison of his own. In badass fashion. He makes his way to his grandson and helps free him and Katara. Katara runs off to free Aang. It's at this moment that Azula comes in. She tempts Zuko. Tells him that their father was willing to make a deal. Azula can convince Ozai's that Zuko not only joined her in conquering Ba Sing Se, but also captured the Avatar. This would restore his honor and he would once again be heir to the throne, and earn back his father's love.

Katara finds Aang's prison. He can hear her voice. She tells him that Zuko is there, that he's been trying to help. In comes Azula. They fight. Aang struggles at this point, desperate to get out. In comes Zuko. He turns on her. In comes the Dai Lee. Katara is completely surrounded, and for all her skill and raw power, an earthbending army and a master firebender is too much to take on at once. She can only stave them off for so long.

The only way Aang can save the girl he loves is by letting her go. It's almost impossible. He clears out the sounds ringing in his ears, goes into a trance... His eyes open. Glowing white. His prison shatters. The earth cracks. He rises. A hole is carved in the ceiling where the light beams up. Katara looks on, with hope returning to her eyes. Zap. He's electrocuted. Azula struck him down. He falls. Katara, using all her strength, practically pulls out a tidal wave to catch him. Iroh assists her and diverts attention so she and Aang can escape. She rises to the surface through the hole Aang created. Appa descends upon them, Toph, Sokka, and the Earth King in tow, and they escape. Zuko stares at Iroh as he's held in place with crystals by the Dai Lee. Iroh's look of disappointment is palpable.

Katara uses the spirit water to revive him. They stare back at Ba Sing Se, tinted red.

The Earth Kingdom has fallen.]

I like that idea. Some of the things I'd expand upon is Suki's time as a POW. When Sokka and Zuko rescue her, she'll be thinner, hair longer, and burn above her eye and on her back. Hell, Suki in general could be developed as more than just Sokka's girlfriend. I'd like to see her friendship with the others in the Gaang, her loyalty to Aang by default, being a Kyoshi Warrior. One thing I love about the show is how it gets you thinking about the characters, the cultures, etc. Something I think should be added to the Water Tribe siblings' relationship is how Sokka and Katara look like Kya and Hakoda respectively. Every time Katara sees Sokka's face, she sees their mom and that's why her murder affected her worse than it did Sokka. On the other hand, when Sokka sees Katara, he sees their dad's face and he's reminded of his duty to protect his sister.
