JK herself is writing it, and we can assume that the company isn't stupid enough to try and edit her work when she went out of the way to write it for film, so we don't have to worry about bad writing.

Who would even try and edit the work of a writer?

I can't even imagine what sort of person would do that.

Someone stupid, I'm sure. That being said I don't think anyone would edit a JK Rowling script.

It'd take a lot of gall to do that, I'm sure. XD

Actually, my biggest criticism of her books is that they read like no one edited them. That's why they're bloated in length and pacing after the first three, I still think her publisher was rushing them out in the name of sales vs. what was best artistically. Hence why I always say sh'es a great storyteller, but an iffy writer.

When you look at it that way, I hope they have a decent editor keeping oversight, because she can't afford to get carried away in 2 hour max movie format.

Plenty of authors have at least four drafts until they publish their work. JK was definitely having her work rushed out the door, no question. I'm a bit more confident that this will be more relaxed and refined than all that hustle and bustle, as it's a promising project rather than a mandated deadline commitment. There's less of a "Have it done now, so that all the merchandizing stays profitable and the actors don't outgrow their roles and-" vibe to it, and more of a "Hey, want to go back to that universe you made and do a cool thing?" In interviews, JK said countless times that she never felt done with her books, she always felt like she had to find a point where she would finally 'put down the pen' if you will and just send it in with a "close enough", like "It's not where I want it to be, but it's serviceable enough to send in." This probably won't have that kind of dreadful, looming atmosphere to it.

What I meant by editing was that the studio executives wouldn't be chopping away at it, but her own editors would be assisting. We all know how executives love to meddle.

Exactly!

And didn't she say this was going to be a series as well? Not just one 2-some-odd hour movie?

We have no idea if this book is being made into a series or if all the tie-in books are getting their own films. I'm excited for either.

No I think Quid means that there's going to be a set of movies as a series. Which is true, just read the first post.

We don't know for sure though. It could be this one story as a whole series, or it could be a longer more diverse project.

It'll be interesting either way, I'm sure. There must be tons of fans who're eager to see and learn more about the HP universe. ^^

Except we do, it says it right here in the opening.

"Warner Bros. announced on 12th September 2013 that J.K. Rowling would be making her screenwriting debut with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the first in a new film series which is part of their expanded creative partnership with J.K. Rowling. "

That's still ambiguous enough though, if you reread it enough. It specifically states that Fantastical Beasts and Where to Find Them is the first in a new film series. Which could imply that it's the first amongst other spin offs.

When I my friend told me this days ago when it was announced we almost cried together. I'm so freaking excited for this I cannot even express it!

It'll be really interesting to see a somewhat different perspective on the Wizarding World. I wonder if any names will be mentioned, like Grindlewald or Dumbledore.

Everyone's story begins once upon a time...and it's up to us to cherish the time we're given to ensure we live happily ever after.
