Comicbooks!
« on: July 18, 2013, 07:03:27 PM »
Hey folks. I've been thinking about getting into Comicbooks. I've never really read them consistently considering my only real interests are Batman and Spider-Man. Where is a good place to start? I've been thinking about reading The Ultimate Spider-Man Comics all the way up until Peter Parker dies, but I just want a few recommendations. I don't really care which hero (although my favorites have already been stated), so just toss  a few idea's to a beginner  if you could be so kind!

I've never fully read any comic series, except Indian and European ones. I grew up reading Tintin and Asterix and Obelix (which probably aren't that big here ^^') and Indian comic books, so I won't be of much help. But I enjoyed those, so if you're willing to read other comic books, those are two options! XD

Thanks, Cass! I planned to read the Tintin books eventually so those were on my radar. And I'll look into those other one's. Can't hurt to get an Indian  flavor. Hahahhahahahaha

Oh! Asterix and Obelix isn't an Indian series; it's European, but still really good. And funny. XD

You want old archives, or good stuff on-going right now?

Preferably something relatively recent or going on right now, but give me whatever you have.

I was goign through the same things as you roughly a year ago, as it were.

Here's the book that really got me into things and introduced me to some of my favorite characters now:
Venom: Circle of Four

It was a mini-series featuring four different quality but unheralded characters, in a well paced romp against the minions of Hell taking over Las Vegas. Venom and X-23 are still my favorite two superheroes I read right now (Venom's series is on-going and fantastic, and X-23's solo series ended but she's in a book called Avengers Arena)

The book was (for once) critically praised and embraced by fans. It isn't too high brow but it it isn't "dumbed down" either. Highly recommended, and you may find your self interested in some of the characters you see throughout the story.

I'm actually more interested in reading the original Spider-man comics, so if anyone knows where that starts it would be a lot of help.

I'd be up for reading those as well.

The only way I could read them though is if I torrented them or something. I have Batman Year One that I haven't finished yet.

Fe, how are your science minions going with your time machine? You could just go back in time and read them as they were released.

Well they're doing pretty well, but it's not an easy thing to build, it could take months and I can't exactly fast forward in time to when they complete it.

I wonder if any of my brothers own any superhero comics.

If they do, what's the chance of them letting you borrow ones you might want to read?

They'd let me borrow them I'd think. I'm very careful with things that are and aren't mine.

I wish we still had the Calvin and Hobbes comics.

Oh, I imagine you are, but based on what you have told me, they don't let you borrow anything that is theirs most of the time. Or buy you food from snack stands when you are short on cash. :(

Depends on what it is and who it is. I have 5 brothers, and I hardly ever borrow stuff them because there isn't really anything I wanna borrow. Three of those brothers would buy me food if I need it. Two would probably make me pay. I'd love to play any of my brothers game systems but I don't want to borrow them.

If they have comic books, I doubt they read them, so they probably have no problem with me borrowing any.
