No, I don't think I would like that. I certainly would still love Avatar, I believe, if it wasn't humorous, but one of the reasons I love Avatar so much is that it balanced humor and dark so well. Obviously it was on a children's show so the dark could only go so far but it's not like dark stories exist in some sort of vacuum where humor doesn't belong. I think humor that is reflection on the characters (which is why Avatar's humor works so well within the story I think, because the humor was more of a reflection of the character rather than a funny-for-funny's sake for the most part) always works well in fiction.

For me, personally, I get really bored if a movie is overly dark/depressing (unless there's some social commentary of some kind) but it can be justified in a movie because of the time they have to tell the story. I don't think a television show can hold up that long if it's doesn't have a considerable amount humor/light-heartedness/slow-moments.
