General Discussion Rules and Guidelines
« on: November 14, 2012, 06:52:09 PM »
Welcome to the General Discussion forum! This is where you go to discuss pretty much anything that doesn't fit into one of our other categories, such as stuff about current events and news, debates, or whatever else you can think of that will initiate some in-depth discussion.

How do you differentiate between something that goes in General Discussion as opposed to our Misc. Topics board? A good rule of thumb is that if your topic can generate responses of more than a paragraph long, then it goes in this board. For example, a thread called "Pizza is Awesome!" would go in our Misc. Topics area, but a thread called "The History of Pizza" could go in this board because it's informative and would generate discussion! :)

Some basic rules for this board:
  • Make sure you search for your topic before you create it! We don't need duplicate threads.
  • Mods will sometimes move topics to our Mature General Discussion board as we see fit. This may sometimes include discussions about religion or politics.
  • If your thread contains discussion about common triggers (see other thread explaining what these are), make sure you put appropriate warnings in the thread title or make the warnings immediately visible on the first post. Threads without warnings will be deleted.
  • And as always, be respectful! No bashing of other members is allowed. If a thread gets out of hand, it may be locked or removed.

:D

Common Triggers and What They Are
« Reply #1 on: November 14, 2012, 07:52:04 PM »
Trigger Warnings for slurs and other words!

Here on TKC, we have forum-goers that come from all walks of life. We have people here that are of many different races, orientations, and gender identities. We want to ensure that this forum is a fun, friendly, and welcoming place for all, and any racial, sexual, or gender slurs will not be tolerated!

For example, don't assume that anyone is of a certain gender unless they say so. We have the option to show our genders beneath our posts, as you can see here:

If someone does not have their gender shown, then do not assume! They may not want their gender revealed or they may not identify as either one. Address them by their forum nickname, or perhaps ask them privately and in a respectful manner.

There are plenty of other common triggers that can come up in general topics, which is why this thread is in this board.

Common triggers include things about: blood, self harm, gore, incest, animal abuse, rape or sexual assault, and suicide. If you post a thread with content about any of these topics, put them under a block tag and make sure you include appropriate warnings, as I have done at the top of this thread. Slurs such as "fag", "retard", "slut", etc will not be tolerated, and disciplinary action will be taken against members who use these terms in a hurtful manner. We will also move topics to Mature General Discussion if we see fit.

Remember though that not everyone is out to get each other, and sometimes people make mistakes. If someone is corrected and the behavior still continues, then contact a moderator immediately.

:D
