Korra Writing Contest Rules

The World and characters of ‘Avatar:The Legend of Korra’ are the focus of TKC, and so is its Korra Fan Fiction Writing Contest! So yes, you're free to make your prompts/themes for this Contest Korra-centric! This includes Makorra, Borra, Masami, Amorra, or any other Korra ships, or no shipping at all - just simply the World of Avatar Korra adventure.

A writing contest for the original series 'Avatar the Last Air Bender' is a separate Board for this Forum.

This is an open-ended word count contest, but you're free to suggest a count for those that want the word count challenge! Not all participants are required to follow this - it is optional.

If you enter, you must vote or be disqualified if you win.  You cannot vote for yourself.

Korra Writing Contest Discussion Topic

Associated with this competition is a topic that allows for discussion of the attributes of the competitive entries. While each contest is separate, there is only one Discussion topic, and it is added to for each contest cycle.

We want the actual contest submission thread to be free from discussion, so that is why the Discussion topic is separate.

We encourage you to post something constructive about every entry that is posted in the Discussion topic!

Writing is a learning experience, and everyone needs some suggestions sometimes. We cannot learn to be better by writing in isolation. So feedback and critiques will be greatly encouraged.

Please do not spam the Discussion topic too much. We know you love your favorite authors. Take your personal conversations that are not relevant to the contest offline to PMs please.

Official Starting and End Times:

- Starts on Sunday
- TWO WEEKS are given for all works to be submitted!
- Ends on Saturday at 12 am Forum Time. Voting thread is created.
- Voting Ends on Sunday at 12am Forum.  Winner is announced that day.

Writing Contest Moderators may modify start and end times, but will announce that. Winners earn the right to create next Korra Fiction Writing Contest theme/prompt within twenty four hours of the winner announcement. Winners also receive Championship Points.

Example: A competition starts on Sunday morning, January 2, 2012. The competition would end and voting would begin on Saturday, January 15th at midnight for a 24 hour period. Voting ends on Sunday, January 16th at midnight. New contest starts Sunday, January 16th when the contest winner posts the new theme/prompt.

If a new Korra Fic Contest topic is not posted by Monday, the theme/prompt will be chosen by the Moderators in charge of this competition and the new topic posted.

In the result of a tie, voting is left up to TKC membership to determine a sure-fire winner. The first vote cast in a tie at the close of the writing competition determines the winner. In order to preserve anonymity in voting for a contest entry, we will usually establish voting polls. This helps the dilemma of who to vote for when choosing among friends and lessen chances of hurting feelings.

How to label your submissions to the Korra Writing Contests:

Atop your writing competition submission, please give it a title and information table like this, so your submission stands out from the other submissions:
Title: The title of your story
Author: Your username
Rating: pick a rating for suitability for your readers and a word or two why it rated so (K, K+, or T per Fan Fiction.net rating criteria. Examples: violence, romance, etc. No M rated submissions are suitable for the Child Boards. Such stories will be moved to the TKC Mature site)
Word count: optional
Info/Author's Notes: Explain your story, especially as it relates to the bimonthly theme!

You should also put the text of your story into a ‘Block’ command, which hides the story from view until a reader is ready to read it.

How to create the new Korra Writing Contest theme/prompt:

If you were the winner of the bimonthly contest, two things happen.  You will be awarded Championship Points for your winning entry, and you earn the right to chose the theme (also known a prompt) for the following contest.

To create the new theme/prompt, start by creating a New Topic on the Korra Writing Contest Board.

In the topic title line, should be labeled: Korra Writing Contest [number]

In the body of the first post of the topic should enter the following information:
Theme: Your theme
Info: Explain your theme. Try to give as much detail as possible without restricting the participants too much!
Suggested Word Count:
Start Date:
End Date:
(see above for how Start and End dates work)

Avatar Writing Contest Rules

We can't forget the legacy that the characters and epic story of the original series Avatar: The Last Airbender made Korra possible, so this contest is the Avatar Fiction Writing Contest! So yes, you're free to make your prompts Avatar-centric! This includes Kataang, Maiko, Sukka, and all the others or no shipping at all - just simple World of Avatar adventure. Avatar Alternate Universe pairings possible here too - Tokka, The Doph, Zutara, and others.

A writing contest for the original series Korra is a separate category for this Forum (explained below).

This is an open-ended word count contest, but you're free to suggest a count for those that want the word count challenge! Not all participants are required to follow this, it is optional.

If you enter, you must vote or be disqualified if you win.  You cannot vote for yourself.

Other Writing Contest Rules

To recognize the overall creativity and preferences of members on TKC, we know that not everyone wants to write fan fiction, and would rather write original stories with original characters, or write favorite characters about other fandoms, so this contest is the Other Fiction Writing Contest!

This is an open-ended word count contest, but you're free to suggest a count for those that want the word count challenge! Not all participants are required to follow this, it is optional.

If you enter, you must vote or be disqualified if you win.  You cannot vote for yourself.
