Poetry Recommendations

So. I normally loathe poetry and am terrible at understanding, reading, writing, and having a good attitude about it. However, I have a big test tomorrow: the Analyzing and Interpreting Literature CLEP test. If you haven't heard of CLEP tests (college level examination program), they're essentially a standardized test you take that if you pass, you gain the college hours you would gain from the class without taking the actual class. It's a good way to speed up the process of college and get out of some of the classes that are less significant to what you're learning. (I'm getting a business degree--don't really want to take a literature class for that. >_>)

And thus, for the past three weeks I've been studying the material on how to best analyze and interpret literature. Unfortunately, the word literature encompasses poetry, so I am kinda nervous about tomorrow. After reading a lot of poetry for studying, however, I have come to find that I don't despise it as much as I used to. Some of them I actually enjoy (:O)!

My study guide tells me that the best way to learn to understand poetry is to just READ GOOD POETRY. Ergo, perhaps no one will reply tonight, but for long-term discussion too... who like poetry and what are some of your faves? :]

Congratulations on passing!

I'd definitely recommend anything by Emily Dickinson.

I don't read much poetry, but I do like some works by E. E. Cummings.

F Scott Fitzgerald brilliantly uses poetry in This Side of Paradise. It's all original and it moves the story along as well as further characterizes multiple characters. Check it out.
